“I wanted to buy a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon because I wanted a mid-size truck with the capability of a full-size truck.”

Okay, you could have had either of the following...

Kinja'd!!!

A Colorado ZR2 for $41k

Kinja'd!!!

A Tacoma TRD Pro for $42k

Kinja'd!!!

Or you could wait a while and get the Ranger Raptor, which will probably be around $40-50k !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

But you decided to spend $62k on a fucking Jeep.

But the doors and roof come off so that 100% justifies it.

See, you DO understand.

I want one... with a Hemi, preferably.

Something, something Jeep thing.

I wouldn’t buy any of them, but the Gladiator is BY FAR the coolest one in my book .

And, yes, that is partially because the roof and doors come off.

I went looking for a Sport or a Sport S model in my area, hoping to find something in the mid-$30s.

Nope. They’re all Overland and Rubicons, $50k+

I will say Jeep is head and shoulders above the competition on interior space/cube. The Taco is the only other midsize I’ve driven and it always feels like I’m basically in a compact hatchback on stilts. I can’t imagine the other two are any better.

Well, you’re watching his YouTube channel and posting up links for other people to watch , which I’m guessing help pays for the truck. Probably wouldn’t have happened if he bought a Tacoma/Colorado/Ranger.

We only have ourselves to blame here, people.

$60k is an asinine number...

*Stephen A Smith voice* HOWEVAH

It actually makes a measure of sense when you weigh it against having two separate vehicles. You could get a $43k truck and a $20k used Jeep, pay taxes on both, insurance on both, or just buy one vehicle.

I wouldn’t spend $60k on it because I’m not in that market and that doesn’t check any boxes for me, but the Gladiator has a very unique set of attributes and I can see some value in getting EVERYTHING you want all in on e package.

I keep wondering how people are going to take to a very heavy truck with an engine that is less powerful and just as strung out as one people complain a lot about in a lighter truck (the tacoma)

*yes it has more peak hp, but it simply revs higher

And I will continue doing so because I have a love/hate relationship with Tyler and honestly I’d be doing the same exact thing if I had his money.

Just think of this as my nagging responsible side butting in.

My BIL is looking at a Gladiator because “it has best in class towing!”.

Kinja'd!!!

I guess the Colorado and Ranger aren’t in the same class as the Gladiator? Also, he owns nothing that can be towed. Although he does own a few Subarus but even then you’re at the top in of the J$$p’s towing capacity.

my rule of thumb, at my elevation at least, is that your max towing on the freeway is the listed number -20% . Otherwise life sucks. if you got 7500 lbs towing needs , you need to be looking at a half tons .

You convinced me to take a gander, and I was reminded of why I don’t watch any of these videos.

Pretty on point that the video starts off talking with a grown man wearing slippers in public, loaded up on opiates because he injured himself cos playing as a middle schooler with ADHD.

Good reminder to never let my kids watch YouTube.

Yup. I don’t even tow, but I’ve lurked on RV forums for long enough. A lot of those people are like “I never exceed 50% of my rated capacity.”

I guess that’s how you end up with an F-650 towing a teardrop, but hey. Excess capacity!

You certainly can take it too far.  Interestingly enough I was searching for some other thing on the Ford site and I found out that ford recommends reducing towing capacity by 2% per 1000 feet of elevation. So where I am at 5000 towing to 9,000 feet thats 10-18% right there...which makes sense.

all three of those trucks you posted dont have what he was after, a remov able roof. that said he hinted a few videos ago that he may have bought an actual F150 Raptor.

Also i dont think america will get this gen of Ranger Raptor.

My BIL is looking at a Gladiator because “it has best in class towing!”.

To be fair... My ‘05 Titan crew cab with the “Big Tow” package is rated almost identically at 7400.

That Jeep might not be best in class, but it’s pretty darn impressive compared to 10 years ago.

It actually makes a measure of sense when you weigh it against having two separate vehicles. You could get a $43k truck and a $20k used Jeep, pay taxes on both, insurance on both, or just buy one vehicle.

You might want to break out the spreadsheet to verify that claim... In Nebraska, older vehicles pay far less in yearly registration fees than newer things. My wife’s ‘12 Outback cost over $200 to renew this year, my ‘05 Titan cost $25.

Plus, with two vehicles, you don’t have to compromise.  You could get a 2 door jeep instead of the unlimited, for example.

I don’t know about Nebraska (or anywhere else for that matter, haha ), but in RI we pay a registration fee every two years (based on vehicle weight) and we pay taxes based on the value of the vehicle every year, which is theft . And of course insuring one vehicle is going to be cheaper than two basically anywhere, depending on what they are naturally.

I mean I agree with you, I’d have two vehicles and deal with the extra expenses. But some people only want one or only have space for one, so for those people I could see an argument being made. It’s not for me, the more the merrier as far as I’m concerned, but still.

Trust me, the Gladiator is much better than the Chevy and the Taco.  Both are based on such old platforms it’s hardly a comparison.  They need to be updated badly.

Not quite, those had the original Pentastar.  These are running the upgrade.  Only vehicles still on the Classic are the Charger/300/Challenge and the “Ram Classic” (DS model).  Everything else is running the newer motor.

7 4 00 is pretty low for a full size with a tow package , 05 F150 does 9500lb with the tow package. Hell my 04 Disco’s was rated to tow 7000lbs, 7000lbs+ towing has been pretty standard for decades at this point.

Kinja'd!!! CobraJoe > TheBloody, Oppositelock lives on in our shitposts.

It’s a high trim level crew cab, so I’m pretty sure the extra weight and lighter springs are hurting the cargo and towing capacity. ( I’m pretty sure newer models are rated higher. )

I’m still pretty impressed that a midsized crew cab truck can match my older Titan.
